Marley, our fish in residence, or dabbling in aquaponics

Posted by Cherish Hagen-Swanson on

This is our first venture into aquaponics, which is a system of aquaculture in which the waste produced by fish (or other aquatic animals) supplies nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purify the water.

Marley is a crown tail beta fish and spends his days swimming, looking dapper, and providing nutrients for the lettuce and cilantro growing in his Aquafarm habitat.

If you look closely you will see the faint lettuce roots behind him that are starting to branch out into the tank.

Stop by the store and meet Marley and learn more about aquaponics here.
